APPLICATIONS OF NEODYMIUM MAGNETS
Levitation Devices
Electromagnets are commercially used for levitation applications, including magnetic levitation transport. However, you can also do your own magnetic levitation experiments at home due to the availability and affordability of small neodymium magnets. The trick to try at home is diamagnetic levitation which requires a diamagnetic material.
Magnetic Separators
The majority of processing facilities will use a form of magnetic separation to remove contaminating items from production or processing lines such as ferrous or paramagnetic systems. This is normally done using a conveyor system and strong magnetic rods.
Reed Switches
This is a switch operated by a magnetic field and consist of contacts placed on ferrous reeds which are encased in a sealed glass tube. They are designed to open or close by default when the magnetic field is removed, and are activated by the presence of a neodymium magnet. Reed switches are often used to detect the opening and closing of doors in burglary alarm systems.

Neodymium magnets are often popular with crafters and model makers. Due to their power, they are the magnet of choice used in this area, for example, for miniature gaming enthusiasts or people who make handmade stationary and cards.

Small neodymium magnets are often used in the print finishing industry because a thin magnetic is powerful enough to attract another magnet, even through a layer of card or plastic. Many people use magnets as hidden closures in brochures, boxes, and even high end packaging.

There are so many applications for neodymium magnets around your home, the uses are endless. They can be used to create door and drawer closures, hanging pictures as well as fixing furniture.
Recovery/Retrieval
Recovering heavy ferrous materials requires a heavy duty magnet which large neodymium magnets are perfect for. Using neodymium magnets can be considerably more cost effective than other recovery methods.

Using magnets to hang artwork has become an extremely popular solution for both professional galleries as well as at home. Small neodymium magnets are suitable as they can support a substantial weight and can hang large pieces of artwork.
Point of Sale Displays
Many point of sale posters and adverts use small neodymium magnets to hold them together. Strong neodymium magnets are also used to suspend the adverts from steel ceilings with neodymium hook magnets.
